GOLD FOR SCHOOL'S ART

A School in Nailsworth has earned a top arts award.Nailsworth Church of England Primary School triumphed under the national Artsmark scheme.

It received a gold Artsmark which is the highest accolade given to schools in the country for their commitment to raising the profile of arts in the community.

Head teacher, Chris Raymond said in order to achieve the award, the school had to demonstrate staff and pupil development through the teaching of such subjects as dance, art and music.

A high percentage of the school's 165 pupils play musical instruments and it is well known for its school plays. In addition, the pupils have had opportunities to meet local artists and visit the Nature in Art gallery .

He said art coordinator, Ainslie Bridges, has dedicated a much of her time and effort to the scheme as the school was assessed over a period of three years and will undergo continuing assessment.
